Having been off air for the past fortnight due to the Dream Concert 2010 and World Cup 2010 documentary broadcasts, SBS’s No.1 music program Inkigayo finally made its return on June 13th with its 576th episode!
The epic extravaganza Dream Concert 2010 took place on May 22nd at World Cup Stadium in Seoul and it has finally been aired to the public on May 30th.
Despite a light drizzle on the day, all the artists put on a great show with the help of MCs Heechul, Shin Se Kyung and Taecyeon.
40,000 fans were in attendance for the show with representatives from various fan clubs. The performers included 2PM, SS501, Wonder Girls, Super Junior, KARA,SNSD, CNBlue, MBLAQ, BEAST, ZE:A, f(x), SHINee, T-ara, Rain, Lee Hyori, After School, F.cuz, Rainbow, Davichi, U-Kiss and 4minute.
Rain and SS501’s performances were not aired at all upon request by their respective companies, J.Tune Entertainment and DSP Media.
On April 22nd, tickets for the famous annual Dream Concertwent on sale. Traditionally, the seats are divided up according to fanclubs. For example, one fanclub will be assigned multiple seating sections while another may only receive one.
The popular artists usually get more seating for their large number of fans. As you can probably imagine, idol groups’ fanclubs take up most of the stadium. It is not the concert staff that determines the seating; the companies of the singers decide them and then release the news to the fans. However, this doesn’t mean the fans have to sit in their sections. This is just a recommendation that most fans do end up following.
On an Internet cafe website, a poster event with Wonder Girls was revealed. The netizen who put up this poster stated that it was an event that would be held at a local Korean mart.
In this poster, it states that you can receive a free Wonder Girls CD if you buy a bag of rice. Netizens who saw this poster expressed opinions such as, “Wonder Girls’ humiliation in America” and “Is this how little Wonder Girls are worth in America?”
On the other hand, others have retorted with opinions like, “It’s not easy to buy Korean artists’ CDs in America. This is probably why there was an event like this” and “I hope Wonder Girls will be successful soon.”
Dream Concert is undoubtedly an event of epic proportions for kpop fans – with nearly twenty of Korea’s hottest artists performing on one stage in front of an audience that’s 40,000 members strong. For 2010, Dream Concert has been scheduled to take place at the Seoul World Cup Stadium next month on May 22nd, and will be taped for future broadcast by SBS.
